Ocean Mining, a Bitcoin mining pool supported by Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of Twitter (now called X), is expanding its presence by opening a hub in El Salvador, a country that is supportive of Bitcoin. The announcement of Ocean’s establishment in El Salvador was made on May 29, and the hub will serve as the company’s international headquarters in the capital city, San Salvador.
Mark Artymko, the president of Ocean, explained that El Salvador was a natural choice for the company to further its decentralization efforts and establish a global presence. He emphasized that the country’s decision to make Bitcoin a legal tender in 2021 presented an opportunity for Ocean to contribute to the advancement of cryptocurrency adoption in El Salvador and beyond.
Luke Dashjr, the co-founder and chief technology officer of Ocean, believes that the mining pool’s presence in El Salvador will help the country to continue its progress in Bitcoin adoption. He expressed his belief that Ocean’s involvement will create new opportunities for El Salvador and other regions.
In addition to establishing its hub in El Salvador, Ocean is also committed to supporting the education and development of Bitcoin communities in the country, including the well-known “Bitcoin Beach” in El Zonte.
Stacy Herbert, the head of El Salvador’s Bitcoin office, welcomed the news of Ocean’s presence in the country and stated that it affirms the Bitcoin-first culture that El Salvador has embraced. She expressed her support for all companies that are working towards advancing Bitcoin adoption.
Ocean Mining was launched in late 2024 and operates as a decentralized, non-custodial, and transparent Bitcoin mining pool. It is led by Luke Dashjr, a long-time Bitcoin Core developer, and operated by Bitcoin Ocean, a subsidiary of Mummolin, a Wyoming corporation. Mummolin aims to support decentralized mining and enable miners to receive block rewards directly from Bitcoin. Jack Dorsey led a $6.2 million seed round for Mummolin in November 2023.
