Bitdeer, a Bitcoin mining company, has unveiled its latest technological advancement in the form of the “SEAL04” chip, which is set to power the newly launched Sealminer rig. The chip is expected to be released in the second quarter of 2025 and is projected to achieve an impressive energy efficiency of 5 joules per terahash (J/TH).
In a recent news release, Bitdeer shared its technology roadmap, which aims to enhance transparency in the mining industry by managing miners’ expectations regarding technological advancements and equipment delivery. The roadmap also includes data analytics on machine capabilities, inventory, and purchasing behavior.
The upcoming SEAL04 chip will be utilized in the fourth-generation Sealminer machine, scheduled for mass production and delivery in the fourth quarter of 2025. This new machine is expected to optimize power consumption to 5.5–6 J/TH, significantly lower than the industry average of 29 J/TH.
The introduction of a more energy-efficient chip could signify a major technological breakthrough in the cryptocurrency mining sector. This advancement is poised to improve Bitcoin mining performance, reduce power consumption, lower operating costs, and minimize the environmental footprint for miners.
Earlier this year, Bitdeer successfully tested the SEAL01 chip, a 4-nanometer Bitcoin mining chip with a power efficiency of 18.1 J/TH, used in the Sealminer A1 mining rig. These chips are crucial components in cryptocurrency mining, responsible for carrying out the complex computations necessary to validate and secure transactions on the blockchain.
In other news, Tether recently entered into a subscription agreement with Bitdeer to acquire up to $150 million worth of shares in a private placement. According to Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino, Bitdeer is recognized as a leading vertically integrated operator in the Bitcoin mining industry due to its cutting-edge technologies and strong research and development efforts.
In a joint effort in May 2023, Bitdeer Technologies Group and Bhutan’s sovereign investment arm, Druk Holding and Investments (DHI), collaborated to establish eco-friendly and carbon-free digital asset mining operations in Bhutan.
Cointelegraph reached out to Bitdeer for further details on the SEAL04 chip but has yet to receive a response. In the meantime, the cryptocurrency industry continues to make waves in the political landscape, with crypto voters already influencing the 2024 election and showing no signs of slowing down.
