T-Mobile, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom, has revealed its plans to enter the world of Bitcoin mining, expanding its current involvement in cryptocurrency activities. The company has been operating a Bitcoin node since 2023 and is also running Bitcoin Lightning Network nodes.
During the BTC Prague event, Dirk Röder, who heads the Web3 infrastructure and solutions department at Deutsche Telekom, discussed the company’s initiatives. When former Cointelegraph contributor Joseph Hall inquired about the concept of “digital monetary photosynthesis,” Röder provided further insights.
Deutsche Telekom has been actively engaged in Web3 as a Polygon validator since June 2023, positioning itself to capitalize on its robust infrastructure and explore new revenue opportunities. As one of 100 validators, the company has been offering staking and validation services on Polygon for over a year, contributing to the platform’s proof-of-stake consensus mechanism.
In addition to its involvement with Polygon, Deutsche Telekom partnered with Fetch.ai, an AI platform, in February. By serving as a validator on the Fetch.ai blockchain, the telecommunications firm supports the platform’s AI-driven autonomous agents. These agents play a crucial role in various sectors such as healthcare, automotive, supply chain management, and digital identities by managing resources, facilitating transactions, and analyzing traffic patterns.
Fetch.ai recently announced GPU rewards for tokenholders following a significant $100M investment in infrastructure, further solidifying its position in the market.
