Semler Scientific has announced its intention to continue accumulating Bitcoin following a third-quarter report which showed the company added another $2.6 million worth of Bitcoin to its reserves since October.
“We are unwavering in our commitment to acquire and hold Bitcoin, while concurrently fostering innovation and growth in our healthcare business,” expressed Semler Scientific CEO Doug Murphy-Chutorian in a statement on November 4th.
As of November 4th, Semler reported holding 1,058 Bitcoin (BTC), amounting to a total investment of $71 million. It expended $8.4 million on the acquisition of 141 BTC during the quarter ending September 30th, and purchased an additional 40 BTC for $2.6 million following the end of Q3.
The company has made a modest profit on its investment, which is currently valued at close to $72 million as Bitcoin fluctuates around $68,000.
These purchases place Semler as the 17th largest Bitcoin holder among publicly traded companies, outpacing the 1,018.17 BTC owned by Japanese investment firm Metaplanet, based on data from Bitcoin Treasures. The data has not yet been updated to reflect Semler’s new total at the time of this report.
“We are seizing the opportunity to boost shareholder value by accumulating Bitcoin,” commented Semler chairman Eric Semler.
“We intend to persist in purchasing Bitcoin with operational cash flow and with proceeds from our sales under our ATM program,” he added. “Furthermore, we are exploring additional financing opportunities that would enable us to acquire even more Bitcoin.”
On November 4th, after-hours trading saw Semler’s share price surge 3.44% to $31, following a 2.31% decline earlier in the day to close at 29.97, according to Google Finance. So far this year, its price has decreased by 32.16%.
The Q3 results of Semler on its top and bottom lines showed mixed performance compared to the same period last year.
Its quarterly revenues fell by 17% year-on-year to $13.5 million, while its net income saw a 2% increase to $5.6 million compared to Q3 2023.
