A highly anticipated brawl between crypto influencer Ben “BitBoy” Armstrong and memecoin developer “More Light” turned out to be more than just a chaotic display of punches and kicks. Even their associated memecoins, Ben (BEN) and HarryPotterObamaSonic10Inu (BITCOIN), experienced fluctuations in value before and after the match.
The two contenders faced off at a crypto influencer fight night organized by combat sports company Karate Combat in Mexico on February 24th. “More Light,” the pseudonymous developer of BITCOIN, revealed that he spontaneously decided to participate in the fight just four weeks prior to the event. He mentioned casually mentioning to the Karate Combat organizer that he would step in as BitBoy’s opponent if the need arose. More Light admitted that he hadn’t been training and was caught off guard by Armstrong’s intense energy and exaggerated facial expressions during the fight.
Prior to the match, the decentralized betting app Polymarkets reported that More Light was the crowd favorite, with 62% of bets being placed on the memecoin developer. However, despite the odds, Armstrong emerged as the victor after three intense rounds, securing a unanimous decision. Interestingly, following Armstrong’s win, the price of BITCOIN plummeted by over 20% within four hours, dropping from $0.052 to $0.040. However, the token quickly rebounded and is now trading at around $0.056, marking a 40% increase since the fight’s conclusion. On the other hand, the price of BEN, the memecoin associated with Armstrong, skyrocketed by 87% after his victory, surging from $0.000004 to $0.0000075 in just six hours. Currently, the token’s price has settled around $0.000005.
More Light clarified that there is no animosity between them in real life and described Armstrong as a “good guy” in person. HarryPotterObamaSonic10Inu, the memecoin project created as a parody of the popular cryptocurrency Bitcoin (BTC), cleverly adopted the full name of Bitcoin as its ticker symbol.
The fight garnered mixed reactions from the crypto community, with some finding entertainment in the event while others criticized it. One individual sarcastically questioned why they were watching such a spectacle, while others dismissed the idea that Armstrong deserved respect simply because he won a karate competition.
