Austin Federa, head of strategy at the Solana Foundation, has acknowledged that the project’s goal of building the world’s fastest open, permissionless, and decentralized network is still a long way off. In an interview during Paris Blockchain Week, Federa stated that the network is not meeting the expectations in terms of user experience.
Federa attributed the congestion on the Solana network to its success, as the unexpectedly high level of activity has put strain on the system. He described it as a “failure of success” due to the overwhelming demand for Solana block space. In fact, Solana is currently processing more transactions per second than both Ethereum layer 1s and layer 2s combined.
However, Federa also admitted that the Solana developers should have been better prepared for the surge in demand and implemented necessary upgrades in a timely manner. The mismatch between the anticipated demand for Solana and the timing of the required upgrades has caused the network to struggle.
