Google is reportedly promoting a dangerous cryptocurrency website that redirects users to a phishing clone, leading to the loss of their digital currency through Google Ads. The malicious actors behind this scheme have found a way to advertise a fake version of Whales Market, an OTC cryptocurrency platform, as a sponsored link at the top of Google search results. Despite displaying what appears to be a legitimate domain address, users are redirected to a fraudulent website instead of the authentic one upon clicking. The fake version of Whales Market replicates the interface of the real site, tricking users into connecting their digital wallets. However, once connected, malicious scripts are activated, draining victims’ cryptocurrency. This incident is just one example of scammers exploiting Google’s platform to promote deceptive services. Google has taken previous action against scammers, such as filing a lawsuit against individuals who deceived others with fake crypto investments through the Google Play store. Wallet drainers have become a significant issue in the Web3 ecosystem, with developers retiring after successfully stealing millions of dollars from victims.
