American businessman Brian Rose, known for his pro-crypto stance, is running for the position of London mayor once again. The upcoming mayoral election on May 2 will see Rose competing against incumbent Sadiq Khan and Susan Hall. Although Rose secured only 1.2% of the vote in the previous election, he is optimistic about improving his performance this time around. In an interview with Cointelegraph, Rose explained his decision to run for mayor again in 2024. He emphasized his belief that the current leadership in the UK is not doing enough to promote the crypto industry, stating that London has the potential to become a crypto-first city and attract significant business and industry. Rose criticized Prime Minister Rishi Sunak for paying lip service to the crypto industry and expressed his dissatisfaction with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) for pushing companies away. He further discussed his association with Bitcoin and cryptocurrency, highlighting his long-standing involvement and the high-profile guests from the blockchain and crypto world that he has interviewed on his “Digital Freedom Platform.” Rose is advocating for the creation of a “London coin” that would distribute £100 to each London resident, funded by a tax on the traditional financial sector. Additionally, he believes that blockchain technology can be used to secure the voting system and increase voter confidence. Rose acknowledged the concerns about election fraud and emphasized the importance of making the British public confident that their vote matters. Despite facing criticism and controversy surrounding his podcast, London Real, Rose remains a staunch advocate for free speech and believes that individuals have the right to express their opinions. He mentioned the censorship he faced on YouTube and his subsequent creation of the Digital Freedom Platform, which hosts his broadcasts. Rose acknowledged the challenges of integrating blockchain technology into the platform but expressed his desire to do so in order to combat censorship. As he continues his campaign for mayor, Rose plans to return to London to secure as many votes as possible. If he receives at least 5% of the vote, it would strengthen his case for inclusion in future televised mayoral debates if he decides to run again.
