Aptos, a layer-1 blockchain platform created by ex-Facebook employees, has achieved a significant milestone in blockchain transactions. On May 25, it surpassed Solana by recording a staggering 115.4 million transactions in a single day, compared to Solana’s 31.7 million.
This surge in transaction volume has set a new benchmark, surpassing the previous record of over 65 million held by Sui Network by more than 50%. Additionally, Aptoscan reported that the blockchain’s user TPS (transactions per second) reached an all-time high of 32,000 on the same day. This signifies a significant increase in activity within the blockchain ecosystem, highlighting the industry’s growing adoption and momentum.
The recent spike in transactional activity on Aptos can be attributed to the launch of Tapos Cat, a popular tap-to-earn game. Within its first day on the mainnet, the game processed an impressive 10 million transactions, contributing significantly to the increased activity on the platform.
In the Tapos Cat game, users can earn $HEART tokens by engaging with a virtual cat. The game’s structure facilitates multiple transactions, and for the first 72 hours, players can enjoy a gas-fee-free experience, encouraging participation without any extra costs.
Despite the high volume of transactions, Aptos has maintained consistent gas fees and success rates. This stability is made possible by the Aggregator feature on the Aptos platform, which allows for the simultaneous processing of multiple transactions, ensuring a seamless and efficient user experience.
However, the CEO of Helius Labs has voiced skepticism about Tapos Cat’s long-term viability and practical utility. They question the game’s focus on click-and-buy interactions as a means to artificially inflate metrics rather than genuinely serving user needs.
While Tapos Cat may seem purposeless at first glance, supporters of Aptos argue that it serves as a crucial engineering project, showcasing the resilience and scalability of the Aptos network and paving the way for future developments.
Aptos Labs remains dedicated to scaling its mission of providing decentralized asset access to billions of people. On May 9, the Aptos Labs team introduced new global advisors, including David Lawee, former vice president of corporate development at Google.
In partnership with South Korean telecommunications operator SK Telecom (SKT), Aptos Labs and Atomrigs Lab announced plans to launch a Web3 wallet service called T wallet in November 2023.
