Zone, the pioneer of Africa’s premier regulated blockchain network for payments, revealed the introduction of its innovative “ZonePOS” point-of-sale payment gateway solution on June 5.
According to a statement from Zone, this new product is a groundbreaking solution for the region. The company’s blockchain-powered payment infrastructure facilitates direct transaction routing to issuers within the confines of regulatory standards on interbank payments. This signifies one of the very few, if not the only, decentralized gateway for currency-agnostic payments in the African market.
Zone CEO Obi Emetarom, expressed in a press release, stated:
“Our PoS Payment Gateway Product signifies our dedication to financial inclusion and the digital evolution of all payments in Africa. With this latest offering, we are thrilled to have taken yet another significant stride towards our vision of a world where individuals and businesses can execute and receive instant payments to and from anyone globally, via any payment method and in any currency.”
The features of the product include enhanced transaction speeds, with Zone assuring same-day settlements with ZonePOS. The service also incorporates blockchain-based charge-back protection.
As per the press release, Zone’s PoS payment gateway “eradicates chargebacks and chargeback fraud on PoS terminals by automatically refunding customers for unsuccessful transactions and rejecting fraudulent chargebacks in real-time.”
This new product launch coincides with a shifting regulatory landscape in Nigeria, one of the regions where ZonePOS is being introduced.
As reported by Cointelegraph, younger citizens have expressed confusion over the current government’s resistance towards the cryptocurrency and blockchain sectors.
Nigerian President Tinubu had pledged to legalize and endorse cryptocurrency technology during his presidential campaign. However, since assuming office in February 2023, the government has taken actions that appear anti-crypto, leaving supporters questioning Tinubu’s intentions for the industry.
