Aptos Labs and NBCUniversal have recently formed a long-term partnership to deliver Web3 fan experiences, customer loyalty programs, and gaming for the entertainment company. Aptos, known for its successful development of fan experiences for major Universal films, will build upon NBCUniversal’s existing Web3 initiatives.
In March 2023, Aptos launched Free Renfield the Game, a game inspired by the film “Renfield.” Players were tasked with finding bugs that granted superhuman abilities and matching them to scenes from the movie. Prizes, including collectible digital art, were awarded to winners.
In September, Aptos created behind-the-scenes media, augmented reality filters, digital art, and opportunities to win prizes for ticket holders of “The Exorcist: Believer” through the Fandango service.
NBCUniversal has shown its commitment to Web3 through various offerings, such as a digital scavenger hunt during Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort. This event was developed in collaboration with the MoonPay blockchain payment system.
NBCUniversal, owned by telecommunications giant Comcast, also owns the DreamWorks film studio and the Peacock streaming service.
Aptos, led by former Meta executives Mo Shaikh and Avery Ching, introduced a proof-of-stake blockchain in October 2022. This blockchain, built on a programming language developed for Meta’s unsuccessful Diem stablecoin project, powers various platforms and services including the PancakeSwap decentralized crypto exchange, the Chingari Indian social media platform, and the Overlai intellectual property rights protection service.
In August, Aptos integrated Microsoft artificial intelligence tools from the Azure OpenAI service, aiming to attract the financial services sector.
