Astar Network, a Japanese blockchain company, made history on March 5 by launching Astar zkEVM, the first layer-2 chain to integrate with Polygon’s AggLayer. Astar zkEVM is a zero-knowledge layer-2 chain that facilitates cross-chain transactions between the Astar and Polygon blockchains. This integration is made possible through AggLayer, a protocol that enables multichain smart contracts using aggregate zero-knowledge proofs (ZK-proofs). Essentially, this integration makes it appear as though the chains have merged into a single network, providing a seamless experience for end-users. The transactions remain secure and immutable throughout the entire process of crossing chains. The introduction of AggLayer was announced just over a month ago with the aim of simplifying cross-chain transactions for users. It allows for automatic connection and conversion of assets behind the scenes, similar to the experience of browsing the internet. Sandeep Nailwal, co-founder of Polygon, stated that the advent of the AggLayer era marks a significant milestone.
