Co-founder of Aethir aspires to become the Airbnb equivalent for unused GPU

In an exclusive interview with Cointelegraph, Dan Wang, the co-founder and chief business officer of Aethir, revealed that Aethir aims to become the AirBnB of spare GPUs. With backing from Nvidia, Aethir is developing a decentralized GPU cloud infrastructure network specifically designed for AI and gaming applications.

Wang highlighted that overall GPU utilization is currently quite low. However, Aethir plans to address this issue with its intelligent routing feature, which matches the computing demand with the appropriate GPU power, thereby increasing GPU utilization. According to Wang, this increased utilization could result in more advanced AI use cases at a lower cost.

Aethir is now gearing up for its Initial Node Offering, scheduled to begin on March 14, followed by the public node sale on March 20.

Wang also addressed the global GPU shortage, stating that a significant part of this problem stems from the underutilization of older GPU models. Nvidia, a major chipmaker, has faced challenges in meeting the demand for its GPUs in recent years. The popularity of these GPUs among gaming customers and cryptocurrency miners has contributed to the shortage. While the GPU supply issues initially arose in 2017 during the crypto mining boom, they resurfaced again in 2020 and continue to persist.
