Co-founder of Aethir aspires to become the Airbnb equivalent for unused GPU power

Dan Wang, the co-founder and chief business officer of Aethir, revealed in an exclusive interview with Cointelegraph that Aethir aims to become the AirBnB of spare graphics processing units (GPUs). With the support of Nvidia, Aethir is currently developing a decentralized GPU cloud infrastructure network for artificial intelligence (AI) and gaming applications.

Wang highlighted that the overall utilization of GPUs is currently quite low. To address this, Aethir is implementing an intelligent routing feature that matches the computing demand with the appropriate GPU power, thereby boosting GPU utilization. Wang explained that increased GPU utilization can lead to more advanced AI use cases as it reduces the cost of computing power.

Aethir is scheduled to launch its initial node offering on March 14, followed by a public node sale on March 20.

Wang also pointed out that the major global GPU shortage is partly a result of the underutilization of older GPU models. Nvidia has faced challenges in meeting the demand for its GPUs, which are highly sought after by gaming customers and cryptocurrency miners. The GPU supply issues first arose in 2017 during the crypto mining boom and resurfaced in 2020, showing no signs of improvement.

In related news, the price of Bitcoin has reached a new all-time high, and in South Korea, it has even hit $72K due to the return of the “Kimchi premium.”
