DePIN io.net, a recently launched decentralized physical infrastructure network, is set to integrate Apple silicon chip hardware into its artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) services. The network, which is based on Solana, utilizes graphics processing unit (GPU) computing power from various data centers, cryptocurrency miners, and decentralized storage providers to drive ML and AI computing. The company unveiled its beta platform at the Solana Breakpoint conference in Amsterdam in November 2023 and also announced its partnership with Render Network. With this upgrade, io.net becomes the first cloud service to support Apple silicon chip clustering for machine learning applications, enabling engineers to cluster Apple chips from anywhere globally. Io.net is renowned for its provision of cost-effective GPU computing resources for AI and ML applications, and it employs Solana’s blockchain for payments to GPU and central processing unit computing providers. The chief operating officer of io.net, Tory Green, highlighted the scalability of Solana’s infrastructure in meeting the platform’s transaction and inference requirements. The upgrade allows io.net users to leverage the computing power of various Apple Silicon chips, including the latest M3 chip family, which boasts a cutting-edge three-nanometer process technology and a 128-megabyte memory architecture that surpasses Nvidia’s A100-80 gigabyte graphics cards. The M3 chips also feature an enhanced neural engine that is 60% faster than the previous M1 series. Io.net founder Ahmad Shadid emphasized that the integration of Apple chip support opens up opportunities for millions of Apple product users to contribute their spare chip and computing resources to AI and ML use cases, thereby helping to meet the growing demand for these computing resources.
