Arbitrum, a layer-2 blockchain network, is seeking to strengthen its Web3 gaming development sector. On March 12, an announcement on the official forum introduced the Gaming Catalyst Program (GCP), a project that aims to secure 200 million ARB tokens for developer onboarding and gaming development.
According to the post, the GCP’s objective is to establish a sustainable gaming ecosystem on the Arbitrum network. At the time of writing, 200 million ARB tokens are valued at approximately $426 million. As stated in the forum post, a portion of the funds will be used to co-invest in promising studios and games for development on the platform.
The project also shared its key performance indicators and projections, including the goal of positioning Arbitrum as the leading choice for on-chain gaming. Other objectives include attracting 200 to 300 applications from builders, having at least 20% of all Web3 games select Arbitrum as their base network, launching 25 new Orbits, and achieving a higher number of net migrations to Arbitrum compared to other layer-2 networks.
If approved, the proposal allocates 40 million ARB tokens for infrastructure bounties. These bounties will be paid on a per-proposal basis to support gaming tools and infrastructure within Arbitrum.
The timing of the GCP launch and proposal conveniently coincides with the scheduled ARB token unlock, set to take place in three days. As previously reported by Cointelegraph, Arbitrum plans to unlock 673.5 million tokens (worth approximately $1.34 billion at current prices) for its team and advisors as part of a “cliff unlock” on March 16.
