BNB Chain, the ecosystem powered by the BNB token, has introduced a solution for creating layer-2 blockchains on its network. The rollup-as-a-service (RaaS) solution, announced on March 14, aims to provide projects with the necessary infrastructure to deploy layer-2 networks on BNB Chain, thereby expanding its ecosystem. The service supports decentralized applications (DApps), enabling projects in various verticals such as blockchain gaming and decentralized finance (DeFi) to be deployed on layer-2 networks. BNB Chain also offers rollup management support and a “no-code” deployment option for projects that lack coding expertise. The layer-2 networks built through BNB Chain’s RaaS service will be based on the BNB Smart Chain (BSC), which serves as the foundational layer-1 blockchain and governance chain. This new service aligns with BNB Chain’s objective of promoting the widespread adoption of Web3 technology. In June 2023, BNB Chain unveiled its layer-2 scaling solution, opBNB, based on the Optimism OP Stack, on a testnet. The solution is compatible with Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), allowing it to work with Ethereum-based smart contracts and token standards. In September, opBNB was deployed onto a mainnet, following a successful testing phase. BNB Chain reported impressive results, with the platform handling over 35 million transactions and hosting 150 DApps on its testnet. Additionally, the opBNB platform achieved 4,000 transactions per second (TPS) during a stress test. The introduction of the rollup service is part of BNB Chain’s broader goals outlined in its “BNB Chain 2024 Outlook” released in January. The outlook document introduces the concept of “One BNB,” which aims to establish interconnectivity between BSC and BNB Greenfield, the decentralized storage service.
