Square Enix, the renowned Japanese tech company behind popular gaming franchises like Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts, has formed a partnership with HyperPlay, a web3 games platform, as of March 19. As part of the partnership, Square Enix has made an undisclosed investment that will be used to expand and scale the HyperPlay game store. Additionally, Square Enix’s “SYMBIOGENESIS,” an art experience centered around digital asset ownership and based on MetaMask, will be available on the HyperPlay storefront.
Hideaki Uehara, General Manager of Investments at Square Enix, expressed excitement about the investment and partnership, stating that the HyperPlay team has created an exceptional product that improves game distribution and creates new, more beneficial business models for developers.
This move aligns with Square Enix’s recent efforts to modernize its organizational structure to support blockchain, Web3, and artificial intelligence (AI). The company aims to stay at the forefront of technological advancements in the gaming industry.
JacobC.eth, Founder of HyperPlay, highlighted the investment’s significance in revolutionizing the gaming sector. He believes that legacy distribution platforms hinder game developers from fully utilizing the potential of web3. By enabling new business models that align the interests of players and developers, HyperPlay aims to foster a sustainable pipeline of high-quality games.
Furthermore, HyperPlay plans to expand its platform to include Mac users and integrate with Amazon in Q2 2024. This integration will allow Amazon Prime members to launch Prime Gaming titles within HyperPlay and enjoy exclusive benefits, free games, and perks directly from the HyperPlay Store.
