Uniswap, a decentralized exchange (DEX), is introducing a web extension for its native wallet. Users who have claimed a uni.eth username can join the waitlist for access to the Uniswap Extension Beta. Similar to existing self-custody wallets like MetaMask, the Uniswap Wallet extension enables users to send, receive, purchase, and trade various tokens and altcoins directly from their web browsers.
The uni.eth domain, which is built on the Ethereum Name Service, allows users to convert their 0x addresses into usernames. As of February 25, over 100,000 uni.eth subdomains have been claimed.
Over the past month, the value of Uniswap’s namesake token has increased by more than 80% following a proposal that suggests rewarding users with protocol fee rewards. The proposal, submitted by Erin Koen, the governance lead of the Uniswap Foundation, aims to reward UNI holders who have staked and delegated their tokens.
Koen stated in a follow-up post on February 27 that this upgrade would maintain the immutability of the Uniswap DEX, enhance security, and retain its ability to explore new possibilities in the future. The developer also highlighted that immutability eliminates the risk of introducing bugs and the potential hacking of user funds.
Discussions regarding the proposal are ongoing. Uniswap is set to launch its V4 DEX in Q3 2024 after a significant upgrade to the Ethereum network. Additionally, Uniswap has allocated $300,000 for the development of V4, with a $150 million token launch KPI.
