A group of prominent figures from the entertainment and gaming industries have come together to establish a leading Web3 games publisher in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Known as Galactic Entertainment Publishing, this new venture is the first subsidiary of parent company Galactic Group. The company’s debut project, PlanetQuest, has been actively in development since 2022. Loren Roosendaal, CEO of Galactic Entertainment and founder of PlanetQuest, revealed that despite the game not being officially launched yet, it has already garnered a substantial user base.
The team behind PlanetQuest consists of former employees from renowned companies such as Disney, Warner Bros., Activision-Blizzard, and Epic. Their individual track records include contributions to numerous successful franchises, spanning from blockbuster films like The Batman, Avengers, and Blade Runner to popular AAA games such as Fortnite, Call of Duty, and Star Wars: Jedi Survivor.
Jon McCoy, the firm’s chief creative officer, who has worked on several AAA Hollywood blockbusters throughout his career, expressed that his involvement with Galactic Group surpasses any previous experiences in the industry.
PlanetQuest, the company’s inaugural title, takes place in a universe reminiscent of Star Wars, offering players a vast array of assets that can be owned and traded. Digital assets, ranging from spaceships to entire planets, can be obtained and utilized in the game or exchanged/sold to other players for native currency.
Galactic has future plans to release tie-in media for PlanetQuest, including novels, comic books, and another undisclosed game, as reported by VentureBeat.
In a related development, Disney has recently launched an NFT platform in collaboration with Dapper Labs.
