Sophon, a zkSync Hyperchain focused on entertainment, has successfully raised $60 million in Wrapped Ether (wETH) through its node sale. The funds will be used to launch Sophon, an AI and gaming-focused ecosystem built on zero knowledge (ZK) technology. The platform is set to launch in the third quarter of 2024.
The $60 million node sale is considered significant for a new project. Seb, the co-founder of Sophon, attributes part of its success to the demand for reliable infrastructure in the gaming and AI sectors. Both industries require robust infrastructure to handle user demand and the high volume of microtransactions.
The node sale offered a total of 200,000 nodes for purchase and was in addition to Sophon’s recent $10 million funding round, which saw participation from investors such as Paper Ventures, Maven 11, Spartan, SevenX, and OKX Ventures.
In addition to raising capital, the node sale aimed to create a community of holders who can expect future airdrops and rewards. Airdrops are a popular method for attracting new users to decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols. They involve issuing new tokens to early users who have engaged with the protocol.
Sophon plans to incentivize its community of builders and enthusiasts through future rewards, aiming to amplify the network effects of projects built on its protocol.
According to a report, Solana could surpass Ethereum in terms of transaction fees within a week.
