Worldcoin’s World App has achieved a significant milestone, with 10 million users signing up for the service. This impressive number includes an average of 2 million daily users and over 5 million monthly users. These achievements have been reached in less than a year since the app’s launch in June 2023. Tiago Sada, the head of product for Worldcoin’s parent company, Tools for Humanity, has revealed that the project now has more daily users than its total monthly user count in January 2024.
Worldcoin is a cryptocurrency project that aims to establish a universal basic income. To register with the company’s “World App,” users undergo an in-person identity verification process, where their eyes are scanned by machines known as “orbs.”
Remco Bloemen, the head of blockchain at the Worldcoin Foundation, has stated that World App was not intended to be the sole solution on the Worldcoin protocol. The project envisions various use cases beyond the app.
Recently, a user in Kenya made headlines by sharing their gratitude for being able to purchase a goat with the funds received from a Worldcoin airdrop. This story gained viral attention, and the crypto community showed support by sending additional cryptocurrency to the user. As a result, the user has acquired a total of “13 and counting” goats. The goat in the accompanying image has even been given the name “Sam.” When asked about the inspiration behind the name, the owner revealed that it was named after Sam Altman, the co-founder of Worldcoin.
Sam Altman is not only involved in Worldcoin but also serves as the co-founder and current CEO of OpenAI, a prominent artificial intelligence (AI) startup. OpenAI’s ChatGPT product is widely recognized as a leading generative AI technology.
In related news, Worldcoin has implemented stricter privacy checks and now allows users to unverify their World ID. These updates aim to enhance user privacy and provide more control over personal data.
