Worldcoin’s World App has achieved a remarkable milestone, surpassing 10 million registered users. The app has been attracting an average of 2 million users per day and over 5 million users per month. These impressive numbers have been achieved in less than a year since the app’s launch in June 2023. Tiago Sada, the head of product at Tools for Humanity, Worldcoin’s parent company, revealed that the app now has more daily users than its total monthly user count in January 2024.
Worldcoin is a cryptocurrency project with a mission to establish a universal basic income system. To register on the World App, users need to undergo an identity verification process, which involves having their eyes scanned by the company’s “Orbs” machines.
Remco Bloemen, the head of blockchain at the Worldcoin Foundation, emphasized that the World App is not meant to be the sole solution offered by the Worldcoin protocol. There are further developments expected in the future.
One notable use case of the World App is the heartwarming story of a Kenyan user who expressed gratitude for being able to purchase a goat with the funds received from a Worldcoin airdrop. This story went viral within the crypto community, prompting many individuals to send additional cryptocurrency to the user. As a result, the user was able to buy even more goats, currently totaling 13 and counting.
The goat in the accompanying image, affectionately named “Sam,” was given this name in honor of Sam Altman, the co-founder of Worldcoin. Altman is also the co-founder and CEO of OpenAI, a highly regarded artificial intelligence startup. OpenAI’s ChatGPT product is widely recognized as the leading generative AI technology.
In related news, Worldcoin has implemented stricter privacy measures and introduced the option for users to unverify their World ID.
