Dankrad Feist, a prominent Ethereum researcher, has recently announced his decision to join EigenLayer as an adviser. Similar to his fellow researcher Justin Drake, Feist clarified that this move is independent of the Ethereum Foundation and will primarily focus on risks and decentralization.
While Feist’s announcement received both support and criticism from the community, concerns were raised regarding potential conflicts of interest and Feist’s receipt of a significant number of tokens from this position.
Feist, however, reassured the community that the allocation of tokens will not impact his position on the development of the core protocol. He believes that his involvement in this new role will greatly benefit Ethereum, as long as it is carried out with utmost integrity.
Amidst the community backlash, one member expressed gratitude for Feist’s transparency and suggested that the criticism towards EigenLayer may be a contributing factor to the negative response.
Lefteris Karapetsas, the founder of Rotkiapp, voiced his disappointment in the decision made by Feist and Drake, referring to them as “EF researchers.” In a candid statement, Karapetsas expressed his disbelief that even with the best intentions, it is impossible for them to separate the compensation from their judgment.
Drake had previously shared his decision to accept the paid adviser role at EigenLayer, which would grant him millions of dollars worth of EIGEN tokens. Acknowledging the potential impact on his personal reputation, Drake stated his intention to influence EigenLayer’s direction from within.
In other news, there is a documentary about the FTX collapse on Amazon Prime, with assistance from Drake’s mother, costing $2,500.
