Studio369 has revealed the upcoming launch of the third Closed Beta (CB3) for their massively multiplayer online game (MMO), MetalCore, scheduled to kick off on June 27.
During this beta phase, players can expect various updates, such as the integration of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and Web3 technology into the gameplay.
Dan Nikolaides, MetalCore’s chief technology officer and former software engineer at Midway and WB Games, discussed the shift from Web2 to Web3 in a conversation with Cointelegraph.
The addition of NFTs will allow players to own unique in-game items that can be exchanged, establishing a player-run economy.
Nikolaides highlighted the importance of “blueprints” that players must acquire to advance in the game.
Furthermore, this latest beta phase introduces SHARDS, an offchain currency that enables users to purchase digital collectibles using traditional fiat currencies. Nikolaides mentioned:
CB3 incorporates Web3 technology to enhance in-game features without necessitating players to possess a digital wallet.
Studio369 collaborated with Immutable to integrate this middleware layer, catering to both traditional gamers and those well-versed in blockchain technology.
Nikolaides emphasized that the MetalCore team aims to grow the game steadily and responsibly.
In parallel with MetalCore’s advancements, Ronin recently announced an expansion to support a wider gaming ecosystem through a zero-knowledge (ZK) Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) blockchain.
Jeff Zirlin, co-founder of Sky Mavis, revealed that this innovation would facilitate up to four billion transactions daily.
Ronin’s layer-2 zkEVM seeks to enhance user capacity and assist game studio partners in their endeavors.
Additionally, in the world of cryptocurrencies, the SEC has dropped its Ether probe but continues to pursue billions in penalties from Ripple.
