Garry Kasparov, the renowned Russian chess grandmaster and chair of the Human Rights Foundation, remains unfazed by the ongoing crypto bear market. Kasparov, a long-time supporter of Bitcoin, nonchalantly expressed his thoughts on the bear market, stating, “so what,” during an interview with Cointelegraph at Consensus 2022. While he believes that 99% of all coins are “crap,” Kasparov acknowledged that both Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) have already been integrated into traditional financial markets due to recent price fluctuations.
In addition, Kasparov maintains confidence in the future of nonfungible tokens (NFTs) despite the market’s recent slowdown. As the world becomes increasingly digital, he anticipates a rebound in the NFT market. According to a recent report from DaapRadar, NFT sale volumes reached $3.7 billion in May, although this represented a 20% decrease from April. Kasparov believes that as digital transactions become more prevalent, the demand for NFTs will rise once again.
Kasparov also explained his decision to launch an NFT collection on the marketplace 1Kind in December. He wanted to gain a deeper understanding of the NFT process and showcase his life in a digital format. One notable item in his collection was the scoresheet from his victorious game against Soviet chess grandmaster Anatoly Karpov, which sold for 51 ETH. Kasparov fondly recalled, “November 9, 1985 was when I became the World Chess Champion.”
