Brief Hacking Incident on Litecoin X Account for Promotion of Counterfeit Token

Litecoin’s (LTC) X social media account was briefly hacked on January 11th by a scammer who promoted a fraudulent Litecoin token on the Solana network.

The hacker posted a now-deleted and grammatically incorrect message stating, “LTC is now in Solana,” along with a contract address and a link to the scam token on pump.fun.

The Litecoin team later announced that they had regained control of the account and explained that the hack occurred due to a compromised delegated account, which has since been removed.

This incident is part of a series of account hacks on X, where fake tokens or phishing links have been promoted to steal funds and sensitive data.

In another incident on October 18th, the X account of the restaking protocol EigenLayer was hacked to promote a fake airdrop campaign. The hacker shared malicious links claiming to be from the “Season 2 Stakedrop,” which they falsely attributed to reallocated EIGEN tokens. The EigenLayer team eventually regained control of the account.

On November 3rd, rapper Wiz Khalifa’s account was compromised, and the hacker used it to advertise a fake celebrity memecoin called WIZ, falsely associating it with the musical artist.

The Cardano Foundation’s X account also experienced a breach on December 8th, when a hacker took control of the social media page to promote a fake token called “ADAsol.” During the incident, the hacker falsely claimed that the Cardano Foundation would stop supporting its native asset, ADA, due to a lawsuit from the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The fake token generated approximately $500,000 in trading volume before the scam was exposed, causing the price of “ADAsol” to plummet by over 99%.

On December 26th, Yat Siu, co-founder of Web3 company Animoca Brands, fell victim to an X account hack. Similar to the other cases, the scammer used the account to promote a fraudulent token, a fake memecoin on the Solana network called “Animoca Brands,” which has no connection to the legitimate Web3 company.
