Tigran Gambaryan, an executive at cryptocurrency exchange Binance based in the United States, has had his tax evasion case in Nigeria adjourned until April 19, according to reports. Gambaryan, along with fellow Binance executive Nadeem Anjarwalla, traveled to Nigeria in February amid allegations of currency manipulation. Following Binance’s decision to cease naira transactions, Gambaryan and Anjarwalla were detained and now face charges including tax evasion and money laundering. Anjarwalla managed to escape custody and leave the country, while Gambaryan’s wife has launched a petition to bring him back to the US. Binance has stated that Gambaryan had no decision-making power in the company and should not be held responsible for its activities in Nigeria. The former CEO of Binance, Changpeng Zhao, remains in the US after pleading guilty to one felony count as part of a $4.3 billion settlement and is awaiting sentencing on April 30.
