David Hirsch, the head of crypto assets at the United States Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) enforcement division, has officially declared his departure from the organization.
Hirsch, who initially joined the SEC as a staff attorney, made the announcement on LinkedIn on June 17, revealing that he is stepping down after nearly nine years of service with the financial regulator.
Reflecting on his time at the SEC, Hirsch expressed great pride in the work achieved by the agency’s Crypto Assets and Cyber Unit. He attributed his success to the collaborative efforts of his colleagues and the support of mentors, leaders, and partners from various regulatory and law enforcement agencies.
Acknowledging the role of teamwork in securities enforcement, Hirsch emphasized the collective effort of his colleagues in pursuing a common goal. Despite finding it challenging to leave the agency that has been so instrumental in his career, Hirsch expressed excitement for the new challenges that lie ahead. However, he mentioned that he plans to take a break before diving into his next venture.
Having served as an enforcement attorney at the SEC since 2015 and assuming the role of chief of the agency’s crypto asset and cyber units division in October 2022, Hirsch dedicated almost nine years to the organization before announcing his departure.
