Keisha Lance Bottoms, the former mayor of Atlanta and a member of Coinbase’s global advisory council on cryptocurrency, has announced her decision to join President Joe Biden’s 2024 campaign as a senior adviser, as reported by Ebony on June 26. Lance Bottoms, who served as Atlanta’s mayor from 2018 to 2022, joined Coinbase’s advisory council in April 2024 following her previous advisory role at the White House in 2023.
According to The Hill’s report on June 27, Lance Bottoms will maintain her position at Coinbase throughout President Biden’s campaign, which concludes in November when U.S. voters head to the polls. The former mayor emphasized that cryptocurrency represents a nonpartisan and unifying issue.
The extent of Lance Bottoms’ advisory role regarding cryptocurrency matters within the Biden campaign remains uncertain. Reports indicate that President Biden has been contemplating the acceptance of crypto contributions from supporters and engaging with legislators to discuss digital assets. Cointelegraph reached out to the Biden campaign for comment but did not receive a response by the time of publication.
Addressing a Coinbase “Stand With Crypto” event in Atlanta on June 26, Lance Bottoms highlighted the thriving Black-owned blockchain community in the city. She underscored cryptocurrency’s potential to empower unbanked and underbanked communities towards greater financial autonomy, as reported by The Hill.

In related news, former U.S. Representative Sean Patrick Maloney announced in February that he would resign from the Coinbase global advisory council if nominated by President Biden to represent the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. Maloney was among the original council members when Coinbase established it in May 2023.
Since the launch of Coinbase’s Stand With Crypto initiative in 2023, its political action committee (PAC) has expanded to over one million advocates, actively supporting or opposing candidates at various governmental levels. Coinbase is a leading supporter of the Fairshake Super PAC, which has initiated attack advertisements against politicians identified as anti-crypto on Stand With Crypto.
